Troop Meeting

Hello Scouts!

At the meeting this Tuesday, we will be doing a fitness test for the Tenderfoot requirement. (This will also count for the Personal Fitness Merit Badge!). As we will be exercising, please wear a Class B.

If you do not need to do the test for the requirement/merit badge, we will work on other advancement.

After the test, we will reconvene and finish planning for the campout as well as talk about the upcoming meetings in October (they’ll have a theme!).

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Yours in Scouting,

 Violet T.

Popcorn Fundraiser

Troop 177 is selling popcorn this year to support our troop and the Atlanta Area Council. We are asking all Scouts to participate. The first thing we need for all Scouts to do is create an Account at Once you have done that you can share the link with family and friends.

September Campout

Our September Campout will be a conservation service project at Lake Allatoona Scout Camp the weekend of September 29-October 1. We will drive up Friday night and setup camp. On Saturday we will take part in a service project as part of the Great Lake Allatoona Cleanup/Rivers Alive clean up day. Scouts will also have the opportunity to work on other Scout skills throughout the weekend.

For more information visit our Camping and Outings Page.

Oak Grove BBQ — Saturday October 21st

IT’S BBQ TIME AGAIN!! We’re getting ready to fire the BBQ pit back up for the 62nd Annual Oak Grove
BBQ on Saturday, October 21 from 11AM – 4PM!

In addition to being a great day filled with delicious, lip-smacking, belly-rubbing food, the BBQ is a huge
fundraiser for multiple ministries – including scouting!

Scouts have ALWAYS been a HUGE part of the Oak Grove BBQ, and we need you this year! There are
many jobs for younger scouts, older scouts and adult volunteers to cook, set up, serve, or help clean up.

All volunteers will earn service hours and the coveted, collectable Oak Grove BBQ Patch!
Wondering what the best job is for you?

  • Cub Scouts (with parents) and First Year BSA Scouts: Consider helping with the Dining Room Drinks and Turnover, helping to clear plates and clean tables!
  • Traditional Scouts: Consider helping with Clean Up or Stew Stirring!
  • Older Scouts and Adults: You can sign up for any job, including Stew Stirring, Pulling of the Pork, or a coveted overnight Pork Cooking Shift!

In addition to these ‘official’ jobs, there’s a longstanding tradition for Scouts to cook cobbler for the late-
night cooking crew.

Volunteer sign up on Signup Genius and buy your BBQ Tickets!

November Campout

Our November Campout will be a Webelos focused campout at Cloudland Canyon State Park November 3-5.

Cloudland Canyon is located on the western edge of Lookout Mountain, offering rugged geology and exceptional hiking. The park straddles a deep gorge cut into the mountain by Sitton Gulch Creek, and elevation differs from 800 to 1,980 feet. Everyone should bring a day pack with essentials (water!) and plan to change into a class B shirt.

  • Webelos will participate in Camporee-style games and activities hosted by the Scouts and then have an opportunity to hike.
  • Scouts will participate in either the Cooking Crew or Webelos Crew, arriving either Friday night or Saturday morning respectively. More information will be provided about Crew assignments. All Scouts will hike and contribute to the Thanksgiving Feast preparation. This is a good trip to work on camping and hiking skills, so review the requirements prior to the trip.

We will then enjoy our famous Thanksgiving Dinner Saturday night!

For more information and to register visit the Oak Grove Scouting Campout Page.
