Court of Honor

Hello Scouts!

At the meeting on Tuesday, we are having our Court of Honor! That means everyone needs to be in their full class A, including scout pants, neckerchief, and merit badge sash. It’s a special night to celebrate our scouts! 🙂

On another note, in order to be ready for the follow up Reading Merit Badge meeting next month, please make sure you get started on requirements #3 & #4. (Hint: printing out the Merit Badge Pamphlet helps!) It’ll take some time to read the books, so plan accordingly.

If anyone has any questions, please let me know.

Yours in Scouting,

     Violet T

Scoutmaster’s note: All of the awards earned over the summer will be presented at this meeting, so please be sure to be there to receive the awards and be recognized.

Popcorn Fundraiser

Troop 177 is selling popcorn this year to support our troop and the Atlanta Area Council. We are asking all Scouts to participate. The first thing we need for all Scouts to do is create an Account at www.trails-end.com. Once you have done that you can share the link with family and friends.

September Campouts

At last week’s meeting the Scouts took a vote and decided not to go backpacking September 15-17 (originally scheduled for Sept. 8-10). Instead they have opted to go camping at Lake Allatoona on September 29-October 1. They will be assisting Alice with a conservation service project as part of the Annual Great Lake Allatoona Cleanup Day on Saturday September 30th. More details will be available in the next few weeks, but please make a note of the date and location change.

NAVO 2023

Come out to NAVO is a new orienteering challenge for all Scouts BSA, Venturers, Sea Scouts, Explorers, and adults to enjoy this fall at Bert Adams Scout Camp! You can race for competition or just for fun! Maps offer Scout-level competitions with challenges for both beginners and advanced runners. Event is Saturday September 9th. This is a great opportunity for Scouts that need First Class rank requirement 4a.

Hightower Trail Merit Badge Day

Hello Scouts!

In October, Hightower Trail will be offering a merit badge day and yours truly is in charge of making that happen.

Btw, for anyone who does not know yet, I am the new Hightower Trail District Program Director.

My ask from you scouts is I want to know merit badges that you would like to see offered. Many merit badge days offer ones that are not of much interest and/or merit badges that have been offered so many times at events and you just wish they were different.

I created a sign-up genius (there is probably a better way) to save time and energy. Please add your name to merit badge slots. Each merit badge has 20 slots, if any fill up no need to try and add your name. I will do my best to get that merit badge offered.

Here is the link,

Parents feel free to sign up if you feel strongly about some merit badges being offered, Also, if you are a merit badge counselor and would like to help please let me know. I will be reaching separately to counselors at a later date.

I believe the date will be 10/21/2023

Thank you all

Brian McCoy
