Troop Meeting

Hello Scouts!

At the meeting this Tuesday, we’ll be working on flags with the big American Flag on the pole outside. Depending on how long that takes, we will also work on some citizenship requirements relating to the American Flag.

Outside of that, please contact me or Mr. Taylor if you are going to miss an upcoming meeting or are inviting a friend to visit the troop.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Yours in Scouting,

 Violet T.

Troop Committee Meeting

This Monday is the Second Monday of the month, so we will be holding our monthly troop committee meeting at 7:30 p.m. We will send a zoom link on Monday to join the meeting. All parents are encouraged to attend. This is an all volunteer organization and we can use all the help we can get. There are plenty of roles that you can fill that don’t involve camping, or attending troop meetings every Tuesday night.

Popcorn Fundraiser

Troop 177 is selling popcorn this year to support our troop and the Atlanta Area Council. We are asking all Scouts to participate. The first thing we need for all Scouts to do is create an Account at www.trails-end.com. Once you have done that you can share the link with family and friends.

September Campout

Our September Campout will be a conservation service project at Lake Allatoona Scout Camp the weekend of September 29-October 1. We will drive up Friday night and setup camp. On Saturday we will take part in a service project as part of the Great Lake Allatoona Cleanup/Rivers Alive clean up day. Scouts will also have the opportunity to work on other Scout skills throughout the weekend.

For more information visit our Camping and Outings Page.

Oak Grove BBQ — Saturday October 21st

IT’S BBQ TIME AGAIN!! We’re getting ready to fire the BBQ pit back up for the 62nd Annual Oak Grove
BBQ on Saturday, October 21 from 11AM – 4PM!

In addition to being a great day filled with delicious, lip-smacking, belly-rubbing food, the BBQ is a huge
fundraiser for multiple ministries – including scouting!

Scouts have ALWAYS been a HUGE part of the Oak Grove BBQ, and we need you this year! There are
many jobs for younger scouts, older scouts and adult volunteers to cook, set up, serve, or help clean up.

All volunteers will earn service hours and the coveted, collectable Oak Grove BBQ Patch!
Wondering what the best job is for you?

  • Cub Scouts (with parents) and First Year BSA Scouts: Consider helping with the Dining Room Drinks and Turnover, helping to clear plates and clean tables!
  • Traditional Scouts: Consider helping with Clean Up or Stew Stirring!
  • Older Scouts and Adults: You can sign up for any job, including Stew Stirring, Pulling of the Pork, or a coveted overnight Pork Cooking Shift!

In addition to these ‘official’ jobs, there’s a longstanding tradition for Scouts to cook cobbler for the late-
night cooking crew.

Hightower Trail Merit Badge Day

Hello Scouts!

In October, Hightower Trail will be offering a merit badge day and yours truly is in charge of making that happen.

Btw, for anyone who does not know yet, I am the new Hightower Trail District Program Director.

My ask from you scouts is I want to know merit badges that you would like to see offered. Many merit badge days offer ones that are not of much interest and/or merit badges that have been offered so many times at events and you just wish they were different.

I created a sign-up genius (there is probably a better way) to save time and energy. Please add your name to merit badge slots. Each merit badge has 20 slots, if any fill up no need to try and add your name. I will do my best to get that merit badge offered.

Here is the link,

Parents feel free to sign up if you feel strongly about some merit badges being offered, Also, if you are a merit badge counselor and would like to help please let me know. I will be reaching separately to counselors at a later date.

I believe the date will be 10/21/2023

Thank you all

Brian McCoy
