This Week’s Meeting

We will be working on Scout skills. Come prepared to refresh your skills in knot tying, first aid, and other essential scouting knowledge. There may also be a troop competition.


Troop Election

Troop elections are just around the corner. On April 19th, we will hold elections for the next Assistant Senior Patrol Leader who will serve for six months as Julian’s assistant, before assuming responsibilities as Senior Patrol Leader in October. This position is currently open to any Scout in the troop, including those who have served as SPL. If you are interested in leading the troop see Mr. Taylor about running.


Summer Camp

Please be on the lookout for your initial invoices for Summer Camp 2022. They should be hitting your email this week.


April Camping Trip

For our April camping trip will be backpacking at Standing Indian State Park in North Carolina, April 22-24. Standing Indian is a beautiful, high-altitude camping area on the edge of the Appalachian Trail in NC! Troop 177 will be planning the backpacking route for this trip as part of Group B on the Trip Sheet. The signup deadline is this Monday April 11, at 10:00 p.m.


May Camping Trip

Our may campout will be a Wilderness Survivalist Focused Campout at Camp Rotary on Lake Hartwell the weekend of May 6-8, 2022. More detailed information will be coming this week about that outing. Please visit the Camping and Outings Page for more information.


Venture Crew 77

If you are 14 or have completed the 8th Grade and plan on going to Philmont 2023 or just want to expand your Scouting experience, please join Venture Crew 77.   Please see Mr. Leff or me for further information.

Merit Badge Opportunities

Atlanta Area Council has announced all of the Merit Badge summits for 2022. The next Merit Badge Summit will be April 30th and will feature STEM Merit Badges. Registration opens on March 18, 2022 at 9 AM.

Atlanta Area Council offers many merit badge offerings throughout the year. Upcoming Merit Badge opportunities include Aviation offered April 16, May 14 and June 11; and Construction related Merit Badges ( Drafting, Electricity, Plumbing, Surveying, or Welding) offered April 30.

Atlanta Area Council also offers Aquatics Merit Badge Days most Saturdays throughout the summer. Different Merit Badges are offered each Saturday and registation opens approximately six weeks before the Merit Badge Day. The first Aquatics Merit Badge Day this summer is June 4th and will offer Canoeing, Fishing, Kayaking, Small-Boat Sailing, and Swimming. Registration opens April 22. Note these Merit Badges fill up quickly,

Chattahoochee Nature Center offers nature themed merit badge classes on the weekends in the Spring through Fall. Upcoming classes include Nature Merit Badge on April 24, Canoeing on May 1, Environmental Science on May 15, and Mammal Study on May 22.

Dunwoody Nature Center also offers a number of nature related Merit Badges. Upcoming classes include: Soil & Water Conservation on May 28 and Sustainability on June 25.

Daniel Boone Council headquartered in Asheville, NC has a rolling slate of virtual merit badge programs, with new merit badges offered every week. These are usually two sessions in the late afternoon or evening. There are quite a few popular merit badges including a large selection of Eagle Required. These usually fill up, but if you look at later weeks, there are plenty of seats still open.
